travelogue (films)

Posted on February 2, 2012

A form of travel documentaries that provided an equivalent for tourism from the beginnings of cinema.

The films were usually narrated by the director himself, who often introduced the film, provided commentary during the film and met the audience afterwards.

Contemporary travelogues are rather travel documentaries with commentary, voice-over narration, often a soundtrack apart from the location sound. Shows are still performed at schools, senior centres etc.
